Every season, most fashion brands launch new looks which many people follow. But there are lots of people who don\u2019t want to slavishly follow every trend. They prefer to stick with vintage looks. Their hero is Rex, the owner of LUDDITE, a vintage store in Lei Shun Court in Causeway Bay. Rex loves old fashion. To him, vintage clothes are like history books recording stories from past eras.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tRex’s love for vintage clothing started when he saw his idol Takuya Kimura wearing the T-shirt of an old band in the iconic Japanese TV series “Long Vacation”. But it was only when Rex went to Japan to study fashion design that he came face-to-face with the professionalism of Japanese vintage culture. He says, “Local vintage shops in Japan will place a small card on each item describing its history. Shops will even specialise on different periods, so you\u2019re bound to find a vintage shop that focuses on your favourite era.”\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

When a vintage culture fan like Rex goes to study fashion design, of course he ends up designing his own clothes with these elements: \u201cI don’t think any design is totally 100% new. Many designs have evolved or been adapted from previous designs to produce better products.”
<\/p>\n

Speaking of his own creations, Rex laughingly recalls one incident: “I have a professional tailor with over 40 years of experience to help me make my clothes. I wanted to make a suit with a deliberate shoulder line facing backwards, but was told that no one would do this because the shoulder line of today’s suits is sewn in a straight line. When I told him that this was in fact a design that dated back over 100 years, it dawned on him that my idea was anything but new!\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
